Learning a new language is always filled with excitement. It is also brings with it the stress which not many talk about. Children find learning a language easy when it is only verbal, but writing seems to take a toll on them. This again changes entirely, when the child is introduced to a foreign language.
The enthusiasm of the new language is the one which gets the child to progress easily in the first few steps, but they soon realize that the path is not always flowery and lose interest, which in turns affects their grades. Parents find it difficult to understand their child's thoughts and help them cope with the stress that is associated with the learning of the new language.
Here are some pointers to help the child overcome with the stress while learning a new language and succeed in the same:
1. Positive thought - learning a new language can take its toll on your mind, but never lose hope. A positive thought is required to help one learn a new language and progress through all the stages of learning.
2. Build a solid foundation - the base to every language lies in its foundation. It is therefore important that you learn the basics right. This requires careful observation and working on the same, such that it forms a base for all learning about the language.
3. Revise regularly - learning a new language requires one to practice regularly. It may involve you reading/writing the same word multiple times or learning by rote the words and the spellings. It is only if the basics are correct that one can succeed in learning the language.
4. Don't worry about the mistakes - mistakes are a part of learning and worrying about making them is only going to increase one's stress. Stop thinking about what will happen if you make mistakes and just concentrate on doing better.
5. Try to have fun - learning a new language should be a fun-filled experience. Try to make it interesting for you to learn, by learning a new word or using a word in a sentence. This will keep you motivated to complete your course successfully.
Stress is seen when there is lack of confidence and reducing the same requires one to work hard, constantly and consistently. Also, parents must lend a helping hand in terms of support, revision or motivating the child to perform well in learning the new language.
